Finding the Best in the Worst: When Cheyenne lost her sight it devastated her. She was only a thirteen-year-old girl with so much of her life ahead of her. She felt hopeless, depressed, and scared. She kept thinking about all the things that she could not do or would not get to ever experience; like getting a driver’s license or reading a book without braille. However, Cheyenne was able to make the best of her state. She took her situation and focused on the things that she could do or could learn again. She eventually was able to pick her self up again and become a remarkably independent girl, despite her blindness.
Wits over Panic: There were many times where Cheyenne could have caved into fear. When she was getting taken in the car she remained calm and paid attention to the way the road moved so she could get an idea of where she was going. She also was able to cut herself free from her restraints using a small piece of glass she had in her pocket and successfully get out of the house without panicking. When the police finally came they were not sure where she was exactly. She told the four police cars to turn off their sirens and then turn them back on again one at a time. That way she knew which one was closer to her. Cheyenne was able to push her fears aside and use her wits to get out of a horrifying situation.
